for the 3rd generation of the New Dawn series

Conceptual framework 

New Dawn is a concert and album series by chamber ensemble EnsembleSpectrum which is dedicated to young composers without any gender and nation-based criteria and is free of charge.

Limitations are: under the age of 35 (born after 1988 (included)); previous participation of our New Dawn series;
duration max. 12-15 minutes.

The proposed third generation of this series aims to question the topic of "(forced) Movement" with any abstract, philosophical, etymological and semantic, but also direct, interpretations of its meaning.

Composers are invited to submit their pieces dealing with this complex topic with already existing works or develop and compose new compositions. In the latter case, another already composed piece can be submited as an example of a composer’s previous work along with a project description for the intended new piece. For the former, a score in any form can be submited. This piece can be previously performed.

Works containing improvised, meaning not strictly and thoroughly notated, durations and dynamics will also be considered. More than one work can be submited; however, we cannot select more than one work from you for this project. 

Five to six pieces to be played and recorded will be selected by a 5-member jury made of three previous participants of New Dawn (Sehyung Kim (KZ), Paweł Siek (PL), Santa Bušs (LV)), one performer of EnsembleSpectrum (Katarína Turčinová) and Matej Sloboda, the artistic director of the ensemble.

Chosen pieces will be performed in front of a live audience in May 2023 in Bratislava, Slovakia and recorded and released under UBU Collection (utopická brána umenia) label as a CD - EnsembleSpectrum - New Dawn Vol. 3 - (forced) Movement.
